Interviewing help
During a job interview, you're likely to be asked behavioral-based interview questions that explore the way you handled a workplace situation in the past and indicate how you might handle a similar scenario in the future. Helpful tips to consider when preparing for your behavioral interview:
- Study the job description
- Review major projects you have worked on
- Make a list of your professional accomplishments
- Write down the various situations using the STAR framework
- Practice your interview responses

Choosing to show up fully prepared is like getting all of the green lights while driving. You met the qualifications, you showed up interested, and you came across as knowledgeable and passionate. Green light. In my opinion, the better you show up, the more choices you have — whether that is to land the job you are interviewing for or making connections for future professional opportunities. The prep work always pays off and is always noticed and appreciated by the hiring team. Don’t get in your own way by not preparing.

The most important piece in building a great relationship with any leader is communication. Having proactive career conversations with your manager can help define your personal career goals. These conversations also allow your manager to see how they can support you in your professional development.

The number one thing to remember is that there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach when preparing your interview outfit. Some ideas would be to look through the company website and see what employees are wearing in company photos. You could also do an industry search on proper job attire for the type of job you are interviewing for. Most people tend to dress either business professional or business casual.

Preparation is key to settling your nerves and providing concise answers that demonstrate your skill and knowledge. Consider making a list of key traits that you anticipate being asked about in the interview. Write down your specific examples and think about the skills they demonstrate and what questions they might align to (many overlap and often fit several skills). Follow this exercise with a mock interview or video of yourself. Go into the interview with confidence from your preparation!

One of the best ways to leave a lasting impression, is to create a short and sincere thank you note after the interview. Not only does this show your appreciation for the opportunity, but also conveys an impression that you follow through. This small effort may significantly enhance your chances!
